There is a saying, “men want a lady in the living room and a whore in the bedroom.” That statement is pretty accurate. Let’s examine its first component.

Lady In The Living Room

In public, most men do not want their significant other to seem “easy” or promiscuous. This circles back to the very reason marriage came to exist in the first place: to reduce the need for men to worry about whether or not they are their “baby’s daddy.” In primitive times when survival was a constant struggle, the thought of raising another man’s baby (read: spending precious few resources and energy to keep it alive) was on par with their worst nightmares. Genetic testing has rid men of the need to fear this directly, but the psychological effects still linger.

As discussed in women must trap men into marriage, women generally benefit from marriage more than men. With that in mind, realize that with some men, there is almost no room for error with regards to how you behave in public. Here are some basic rules you’d be wise to follow:

• Excessively flirting with other men in the presence of your significant other is a big no-no. That probably seems like a no-brainer, but it’s very important. It will kill a man’s confidence and they will associate that insecurity with your presence.
• This can vary from man to man, but in general, be cautious with how you dress in public. Some men will want you to show off your cleavage, midriff, etc, because they like the feeling of having a piece of eye candy hanging from their arm. However, some guys don’t like when other men are gawking at their girlfriends in public. I’m not saying you should wear your winter clothes every time you leave the house. Just use some discretion, that’s all.
• Don’t make it a habit to talk incessantly about a male co-worker or guy friend. Even though nothing has or ever will happen between you and said male, men are jealous creatures whose minds will let themselves think the worse. If every time you come home you’re talking about “Alex this” or “Alex that”, your man could start to emotionally distance himself from you as a way of preparing for what he perceives to be inevitable (you leaving him for this “Alex” fellow). When in doubt, just look at things from your perspective: would you really want him constantly bringing up some other woman?

All of these points fall under a greater need that men have: the need to feel special. Never doubt the power of stroking a man’s ego! When he is having sex with you, the last thing he wants to think is that you would let just about any other man have sex with you as well. Men are egotistical creatures (I for one refer to myself as a “Wizard”!) who need to think that you are with him because there is no one else you want to be with. Even if that’s not the case, your stock as a potential wife will increase if you play along.
